GENERAL ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS:

Issue:  Will this program run on Windows XP, Vista and the new Intel Macintosh OS X?

Solution:  Testing performed on Windows XP and Vista has not revealed any issues.  On Macintosh, the program runs fine in Classic Mode.  All Virtual Labs that accompany a 2005 -2006 © or newer textbook are O/S X native and will run on the Intel Mac.

**Note: Older programs with a 2001 or earlier copyright will require QuickTime be installed from the CD-ROM. Also some pictures might appear grainy due to the NTFS platform.

Our customer base uses a wide variety of operating systems and applications, and our software must be developed to be used on some lower end systems to meet customer needs.  Because of this, we cannot guarantee that our software will always work as expected as new operating systems and other applications are developed.  We encourage you to give our products a 'test drive' on any new system you plan to implement.  If you are not satisfied with the performance of our product, we will do our best to deliver a compatible product to you in a timely manner or refund your money.

Issue: Is this program networkable?

Solution:  Virtual Labs that accompany the 2005-2006© are networkable. These CD-ROMs will have a SetupFull executable which will allow the users to select a location where they would like the program to be installed. This executable will also enable users to run the program without the CD in the drive. Also offered on the CD-ROM, is a Setup executable to install the program to the hard drive and require the CD to run. All 2007© or newer will auto run and will not offer a setup feature.

Issue: The speaker button does not work in the existing Chapter Presentations.

Solution: In the existing Chapter Presentations, the speaker is a non-working button on the screen. The developers did not remove it when they created the screen captures.

Issue: When the students save their presentations or quizzes, where do they save to?

Solution:  C:\Glencoe\Results\Name of Program\ItemText. If the student did a Quiz, then the end of the path would be: QuizText, a Journal JourText, and a Presentation PreBuild.

Issue:  The program takes a long time to launch.

Solution:  It normally takes approximately one minute to launch the program.  If it takes longer, then check to see that the computer has enough free RAM to run the program.

Issue:  The playback sound is too loud or too soft.

Solution:

1.       If using speakers or headphones, check that they are plugged in and set at an appropriate volume.

2.       Check that the computer’s volume control is set at an appropriate setting.
To do this in Windows, go to the Folder for the audio card within Explorer and adjust the slider to an appropriate volume level.

Issue:  The printer is not working.

Solution:

1.       Make sure the printer is plugged in and turned on.

2.       Print from another application to determine if the problem is hardware related.

3.       Contact your school’s system administrator or hardware technician to check that the correct printer drivers for your system have been installed.

4.       Download the latest print driver.

Issue: Slide text is lost or moved when inserting additional slides in the Presentation Builder.

Solution: When a slide is selected in the presentation building process, a green light turns on above that frame and it is considered highlighted until another slide is selected. If a new slide is inserted before the highlighted slide, on some following slides text is lost or changed. Highlight the slide in front of where the new slide is to be inserted. Do not insert a new slide before a highlighted slide.

Also, if six or more slides are used in a presentation, they can be scrolled through horizontally. However, if the highlighted slide is moved off screen, that slide will lose text.

Issue:   Quick Time Sample movie freezes even though QuickTime was installed from the CD.

Solution:   Normally this occurs when two or more versions of Quick Time are installed on the same PC.

Uninstall QuickTime Have by running the uninstaller for all versions of Quick Time.  (It can also be done through Control Panel – Add/Remove Programs.). Also do a Find for and manually delete the qtw.ini file.  Once all versions are uninstalled, reinstall Quick Time from the program CD-ROM.

Issue:   QuickTime – Videos do not run on the Win 98 platform.

Solution:  The videos in the product don’t display on Windows 98.  It doesn’t lock up, but the customer only sees an outline of the Quick Time display frame and hears the audio for the movie.  The movie itself doesn’t show up.  This affects all versions/correlation’s (California, National, North Carolina, and all Sampler Books 1, 2, and 3) utilizing either QuickTime 2.1.1 or 3.0, the video only plays on the Win 95, NT or Mac platforms.

Although we were told there is no workaround, we have alleviated this situation for some customers by:

1.       Adjusting display settings to 256 colors and 640x480 pixels,

2.       Lowering hardware acceleration

3.       Lowering the draw method to bitmap (bmp).

Solution:  Try opening Help from another screen, or exit the program and logon again.  This is an issue with the palette/HTML code designation for the background color, which cannot be fixed.

Issue:   In all Spanish Quizzes, words with an “accent” connect to following words, making two words into one.

Solution:   A font spacing problem was encountered in the “Spanish Quizzes.”  Any word with an accented character connects to the next word that follows it, combining the two words.  This problem will not be corrected because the HTML coding used is an old one that can’t be read on the newer Mac OS.
