Issue:  Is this program compatible with Windows XP and Vista?

Solution:  Testing has been performed and no problems were found.

Note: Student access can be restricted on the workstation. However the PeachTree update must be run before the students can successfully access the program. The PeachTree update can be located by browsing to the ./PCW9ED/Update folder (on the CD or on the network) and double-clicking on the win2kxp.bat file. You can also run this by going into the /PCW9ED/PEACHW (on the CD or on the network) and double click on the autorun.exe. Once the first screen is displayed click on the link labeled Update for Windows 2000 & XP.

Solution: We currently believe this is a rights issue. Please be sure that the following is true:

1.       The Peachtree software is installed on the local machine.

2.       Run the Peachtree Windows 2000, Windows XP fix (browse to the CD, go into the PCW9ED folder, and double-click on the autorun.exe).

3.       If the problem persists you may have some additional type of hard-drive security blocking the functions of the program; please consult your IT department.

Issue: When Peachtree starts the following error appears: “Btrieve Error: Max Communication Buffer Size: Parameter 55296 is <64512. Please correct and restart.”

Solution: This error can occur if you have ever installed another program that uses Btrieve, and that program sets the Max Communication Buffer lower than Peachtree's required minimum value.

To correct this, you will need to download and install the Peachtree Release 7.0 registry update file. To download this file go to http://www.peachtree.com/html/updates_available.cfm

Users of Version 8 of Peachtree Accounting, Peachtree First Accounting or Peachtree Complete Accounting (Windows version) should use this update file as well.

Issue: Error: Invalid/missing UserID.ini file at student login.

Solution: On the original version of the software if you started out saving to the network, switched to saving to floppy, and tried to open previous work, you would get this error message. This has been corrected in the maintenance release. The program does not find the previous work, but gives an error about not being able to find work versus Invalid/Missing UserID.ini file. The only way you would actually get the previous work would be to copy the problem’s zip file from the previous save location to the new save location (i.e. from network to floppy or vice versa).

This version can be sent to you free of charge. The new version will replace the old using the same ISBN when stock is reordered.

Issue: I just installed and when I launch Peachtree Complete Accounting Software and Spreadsheet Applications from the ELC screen, I get an error with AMS2 in the title bar and the message Please Put Glencoe CD in CD-ROM Drive(s).

Solution: We have found that if you do a custom install you will get this error message. If possible reinstall using Full or Minimal (instead of Custom).

Issue: When trying to view a tutorial the screen appears, but where the QuickTime movie tries to play is just a black screen.

Solution: If you browse to the network and double click on one of the tutorial’s .mov files you will get: Couldn’t finish initializing application because file was not found. The program will not find the QuickTime .mov files because the file names are very long and Novell 4.11 has issues with them. Unless Novell 4.11 can be updated to work with long file names, the only solution is to do a workstation install specifying to run the tutorials from the hard drive (instead of the network). Running the setup.exe from the server may not copy the tutorials to the hard drive due to the file names as well, so you should run the setup from the CD.

Issue: I ran the XP/2000 update and granted all rights/permissions to the Accounting directory on the server, but I am still unable to launch the program.

Solution: The accounting program is launched by the control.exe. Control.exe is also the executable for the Control Panels. If the customer restricts students/teachers from the Control Panel the security program cannot tell the difference between the two files and will not allow the program to launch. Rename the control.exe, alter the short-cut to reflect the name change, and the program should launch just fine (assuming the patch has been run and the students/teachers have sufficient rights to the server).

Issue:  Error: "The free trial period for the  Xceed encryption library has expired." when accessing the Peachtree portion of the ELC Management System.

Solution: Locate and delete the files xcdzip.dll and xcdunzip.dll.  If the customer installed the Accounting 2000 Demo CD on the computer, these files should be located in the C:\Glencoe\ELCDEMO\MGMT folder.

Issue: Will the available QuickBooks templates work with QuickBooks Pro 2005 or newer?

Solution:  The QuickBooks templates included with Using QuickBooks with Glencoe Accounting are upward compatible and will work with QuickBooks Pro 2005. The new QuickBooks Pro software will identify the templates as QuickBooks files and convert them automatically.

Note: The Users’ Guide screenshots and remaining content will not fully match the new software screens and interface. QuickBooks has not changed significantly from 2003 to 2005 but there may still be discrepancies.
